7 Things Your Website is Missing

Nowadays, especially in the time of COVID, having a website for your business isn’t just a good idea, it’s crucial. But, what makes your website stand out from your competitors? Chances are, you are missing out on some opportunities to really impress your potential customers, along with attracting more. Here’s 7 things we think your website might be missing:

1. High Quality Photos

Your site needs eye candy, plain and simple. This is where some high quality photos can really change the feel of your site. You know how the old saying goes – these photos really will be worth a thousand words. Photos that are blurry or not relevant to your site will send people away quickly.

2. Video

If you think photos are good – imagine what video can do for your site. While a photo paints a picture, a video tells a story. They can be used to showcase your products, your company’s culture, your services – all without your customer having to read a single word.

3. SEO

Now, while you can tell your customer everything they need to know with photos and videos, that still doesn’t solve the problem of how to get them to your website. For this, you need to make sure your site is optimized for search engines, which is what we call Search Engine Optimization or SEO. This can be a fairly involved process that includes changing title and meta tags, page descriptions, headings to make sure to target key words for each page on your site. But, the following item goes hand in hand with SEO…

4. Relevant Content

Not only will you have to put your key words in the above mentioned items, you’ll need to work them into your content. But that doesn’t mean stuffing a ton of keywords into the content – you want to make sure the actual words on your site are easy to read and relevant to the subject matter of the page. If it’s stuffed to the gills with keywords, search engines are going to notice and they may penalize you for it. While writing your content, think about how you would talk to someone who knows nothing about your business. Keep the tone friendly, throw in a few buzzwords (keywords) and you’ll have content that is both customer and search engine friendly.

5. Clear Calls to Action (CTA)

What exactly are your website goals? Is it an e-commerce site so your goal is to get people to purchase? Is it more of an information site where you want people to learn about your offerings and then call you or submit a quote request? Are you trying to get people to book a room at your resort or visit local attractions? Direct them to those decisions with clear calls to action or CTAs. Your designer should have a way to make these stand out from the content while keeping the design of the site intact.

6. Social Media

In this day and age, social media is no longer optional – it’s required. Not only do you need to have a social media presence, it needs to be kept up-to date. Once you’ve established these pages, try to figure out how that content can be fed into your site. Sometimes, it’s just a matter of adding links to your social pages but there are many services that will allow you to pull content off the social sites into your own.

7. Contact Info

This one seems like a no-brainer but there are so many sites where it’s impossible to find contact information. Not only should your site have a contact page with a simple contact form, you should also have your contact information in the footer of every page. This ensures that no matter which page your user is on, if they want to get ahold of you, they’ll be able to find a phone number, email address, physical address, social media links – whatever their contact preference may be.
