4 Web Design Trends for 2016

So we’re a little late getting our design trends out there for the upcoming year – the end of 2015 / start of 2016 was crazy and we’re finally catching our breath. Check out the top 4 web design trends for 2016 we expect to become very prominent.

Scrolling

Gone are the days of worrying about what content is “above-the-fold” – because people know how to scroll! Take advantage of unlimited amounts of real estate and create sections that will keep your users engaged with your content.

Hidden Menus

You know that menu icon? The one that has three lines and sort of looks like a hamburger? That’s what we call a hamburger menu. (Did anyone else just get really hungry?) Basically, the new trend is to hide the entire menu on a full site behind a hamburger icon and force the user to click on the icon first to see the menu.

Now, I don’t necessarily agree with this trend. I agree, the hamburger menu has a use on smaller screens where real estate is limited – plus mobile and table users are used to hidden menus. Where I don’t think iI’m all about making things easier for the user to find in the least number of clicks. This just adds another click to the process – while it may make the design cleaner, a clean design doesn’t mean anything if users aren’t interacting with the site.

Video Content

To me, this is a no brainer. Everyone should be producing video content for their sites! Easier said than done, I know. The great thing about video is that it doesn’t take much interaction from users and can get your message across quicker than a bunch of words on the site!

Card Style Interfaces

When I say card style interface: think Pinterest. The beauty of this style is that it keeps everything organized and streamlined, while allowing for different content types / lengths.
